About Arlington
Attractions in Arlington
The Pentagon
The US Department of Defense is housed in this huge five-sided office building, which has more 25,000 staff and more than a dozen miles of corridors. On September 11 2001, terrorists drove a hijacked plane into the Pentagon, killing 184 people. Since then, only pre-arranged group tours are permitted (call several weeks in advance).
DEA Museum
Those interested by the never-ending US War on Drugs might enjoy a visit to the United States Drug Enforcement Agency Museum. Exhibits range from Target America, which tries badly to link terrorism and drugs together, to the slightly more thoughtful, and quite elaborate, timeline display on the history of drugs in America.
Arlington National Cemetery
The 245,000 graves of this national cemetery are a sombre counterpoint to the more optimistic monuments to US history just across the Potomac. It's a burial ground for US military personnel from every war since the revolution and leaders such as John F. Kennedy.
